Care, Maintenance and Repairs

Some people think that leather is a hard material to maintain, but that is far from the truth. Although Kelly bags are used in some of the harshest conditions imaginable, it is possible to use minimum maintenance to ensure good service. In fact, my original Kelly bag never saw ANY maintenance at all, apart from a quick wipe over after a muddy event. The best clean it would get would be at Customs on the way back to Australia from overseas events most of the time .....And it is still in good shape after over 13 years of use.

If you don't want to be slack like me though, a couple of simple actions will keep your Kelly bag looking sweet for a long time.

After any muddy ride, give the bag a wipe down with a damp rag to get the mud off. Then, use saddle soap (available from saddleries or maybe bootmakers) to wipe over the bag and feed the leather to ensure that it doesn't dry out and become hard. You can use saddle soap or Dubbin to clean and feed the leather any time you want. This will ensure that the bag stays looking good and remains supple.

You can also use silicon spray on the zip to keep it running free. Over a period, dust or mud can clog the teeth of the zip making it hard to open, but if you do this, you won't have the problem.

While Kelly Products have a 3 year warranty on workrmanship, we can't warrant against damage through abuse.  Our gear is tough but even our best efforts can't prevent stitching separation, strap breakages, zipper failures, etc if it's been dumped through water, sand, mud (or whatever), or been dragged along the tarmac or gravel.  But if your bumbag, tool bag, fender bag has copped some damage we may be able to repair it.

The article needs to arrive at Kelly Enduro Products in a clean condition, so make sure you wipe it down to remove all traces of dirt, sand and mud.  Otherwise if we have to do it, that's another $20.  The gear has to be clean so that the adhesives can join properly, and to prevent damage to our machines.

* Zipper replacement on the Bumbag is a complex process requiring partial dismantling of the bag itself and replacement of the entire tool compartment.  We make 'em tough!
